LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Hot on the heels of their 2013 Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series GT championship, Scuderia Corsa Team Principal Giacomo Mattioli announced plans to field two Ferrari entries in the GTD class of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship in 2014.
Alessandro Balzan, who captured the final Grand-Am GT championship in 2013, will share the No. 63 Ferrari 458 Italia with Jeff Westphal. Dr. Rod Randall and Ken Wilden will wheel the No. 64 Ferrari 458 Italia for Scuderia Corsa.
“Having both cars in the full season is part of the continued growth of the Scuderia Corsa programs,” said Mattioli.
The team also announced the additions of two veteran crew members, Joseph LaJoie and William Mendez. LaJoie will serve as the team’s race engineer and Mendez as crew chief.
“We are growing the team and I am delighted to have two veterans from very successful programs joining us, Joseph LaJoie as race engineer and William Mendez as crew chief. They bring many years of experience at the highest level of racing,” said Scuderia Corsa Technical Director Roberto Amorosi. “The competition in the GTD class will be fierce and expanding our team with some of the best will be important to our success next season. I would also like to congratulate Ken Lau, our race engineer who has been with the team since we started. Ken has earned the added responsibility of becoming Team Manager of the Ferrari Challenge program. The program is in good hands with Ken.”
