Peggy Bishop, who along with her husband John, founded the International Motor Sports Ass’n, died Tuesday night following a recent illness.
With support from Bill France Sr., the Bishops established IMS A in 1969 and developed it into a popular North American touring series for prototypes and GT cars.
The Bishops sold their interest in the series before the series began its decline during the late 1990s. IMSA was revived by Don Panoz and now 43 years later is rejoining the NASCAR family through the unified United SportsCar Racing series that debuts next season.
Mrs. Bishop is survived by her husband, John, and son, Mitchell.
