United Autosports confirmed that Mark Patterson and Matt Bell will return to the team for the 2014 British GT Championship.
Last season’s championship runners-up are aiming for the top spot in 2014 in their Audi R8 LMS ultra, after missing out on the 2013 title by just 1.5 points.
Having been consistently in the top 10 throughout 2013, they topped off the year with a stunning win in the season finale at Donington, promoting them to second in the championship. That result was the team’s fourth podium finish of the year.
South African-born Patterson and Bell, who is from Newcastle, have been with United Autosports since the team’s first year of racing in 2010, although 2013 was the first year they partnered each other for a full season.
The first race of the 2014 British GT Championship will be at Oulton Park April 19-20.
“We are thrilled that both Mark and Matt are returning to United next year for the British GT Championship,” said team owner Richard Dean. “They were one of the best pairings in the 2013 field, proven by the consistent results, so to have them back together after forming such a solid relationship is great news for the team.”
“I’m so pleased to be back with United for the 2014 British GT Championship. I have been racing with the team for four years now and there’s no other team I’d rather be with,” Patterson said. “Driving with Matt is such a pleasure and I’ve learnt a lot from him in the short time we have been driving together so I’m feeling very positive for 2014, we have some unfinished business to attend to.”
“Joining United again for the 2014 championship is great, as is being partnered with Mark for the second year running,” Bell said. “Mark was easily one of the best gentlemen drivers in the 2013 field so we are very hopeful for what 2014 could bring.”
