LIME ROCK, Conn. – Alex Welch claimed the second round of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series Saturday afternoon at Lime Rock Park.
The opening stages saw second-place starter Richard Antinucci come into the pits on lap one, as pole-sitting car shared by Friday winners Lee Davis and Ryan Eversley embark in an epic duel with Kevin Conway. The two cars exchanged the lead position three times in the opening 10 laps.
The battle continued through the race before a late pitstop for Davis & Eversley allowed Welch to move into the lead. Once out front, Welch never gave up the lead and drove to victory.
“It’s just an incredible feeling to win this race, especially given the quality of drivers competing,” Welch said. “The car and the team performed exceptionally well. We were consistent but a little fortunate that Lee and Ryan had to make a late stop. It’s been great to be involved with Lamborghini’s first race in the U.S.”
Welch secured first in both classes as an amateur driver, with Kevin Conway taking second and the Davis/Eversley entry finishing third overall.
