DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – Performance Tech Motorsports is adding a new face for Round Seven  of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship June 29 at Watkins Glen Int’l.

Driver Mike Hedlund will join David Ostella behind the wheel of the Dash Neighborhoods/ Phillips 66 No. 38 Prototype Challenge car at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

Hedlund, 36, from Woodside, Calif., is a veteran sports car driver, with experience in GRAND-AM Daytona Prototypes and GT cars, American Le Mans Series GT cars, Pirelli World Challenge and Porsche Supercup.

He tested the Performance Tech PC car during the 2013 Circuit of the Americas (COTA) weekend, impressing Team Principal Brent O’Neill.

“He did a great job at COTA,” O’Neill said. “He’s a solid guy who drives a clean race. He’s driven in Ferrari, GRAND-AM and has done some Porsche GTD. He’s got a lot of experience and is just a good guy. We circled back around with him this season and were able to put something together. It’ll be great to have him, and I think he’ll get along well with David (Ostella).”

Hedlund’s test with Performance Tech at COTA was his first experience in an open-cockpit car since he started racing in 2001.

“I felt very comfortable with the crew and the team overall,” Hedlund said of the test. “Ever since then, I’ve wanted to get back into a car with Performance Tech. The stars aligned in the last few weeks, and we’ve been able to make that happen for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. I can’t wait to get the race week started.”

Hedlund’s experience will provide an advantage to the team at The Glen, as he has finished fourth the past two seasons at the historic, 11-turn, 3.4-mile circuit in the GRAND-AM GT class.

Ostella also has experience racing at The Glen. Last season he competed there in Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama events, eliminated in on-track incidents in both races during the rain-laden event.

With 2013 behind him, Ostella is ready to get back to The Glen and to endurance racing.

“I enjoy it, as there’s more strategy involved,” Ostella said of endurance racing. “Racing with Mike Hedlund this weekend at The Glen should be a good experience. He is a driver with an extensive background, having raced sports cars for a while now, so I am looking forward to having that experience in the car with me.”
