BENICIA, Calif. – Sports car racing ace Romain Dumas will be returning to Muscle Milk Pickett Racing for the final round of the American Le Mans Series season at Road Atlanta next month.
The Frenchman will be teaming up with Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr for Petit Le Mans in what will be his third appearance with the Greg Pickett-led team.
Dumas, who has become part of the Muscle Milk family, previously competed with the team as a replacement for Pickett at Mosport in 2010 and was behind the wheel in Baltimore last season filling Luhr’s spot.
The two-time ALMS champion most recently made the headlines thanks to his class win and second place overall finish at the 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.
Dumas is no stranger to the Road Atlanta track having won Petit Le Mans in both the GT (2003) and P2 (2007) classes.
“I’m very happy to once again be joining Muscle Milk Pickett Racing and I want to thank Greg Pickett for this great opportunity,” shared Dumas. “They are a very professional team and I have great memories of when I raced with them, including the last overall win of the Porsche RS Spyder at Mosport in 2010.
“I’m also pleased to be going back to Road Atlanta, it’s one of my favorite race tracks. It’s a very special place for me as I took part in my first race in the ALMS there in 2003. My goal is to clinch an overall win this year, I’d love to add that to my resume, and I know that the team has the same ambition.
“Finally, I look forward to discovering the HPD ARX-03a, one of the best prototypes currently in competition. We will form a strong lineup with Klaus and Lucas, two drivers that I appreciate, both on and off the track.”
The Frenchman has claimed 24 wins, 44 top-three and 57 top-ten finishes in 62 starts in the ALMS. He also won the LMP2 Championship in 2007 and 2008.
“We look forward to welcoming back Romain (Dumas) to our lineup,” expressed team owner Greg Pickett. “I’d first of all like to thank Porsche for allowing him to join us for the final race of the season. He’s been great to work with in the past and he fits in very well with our team.
“Romain will definitely form a great driver line up with Klaus and Lucas. I’m anxious to see him aboard our Muscle Milk HPD ARX-03a.”
The Petit Le Mans takes place Oct. 17-20, 2012 at Road Atlanta. It covers a maximum of 1000 miles or 10 hours, whichever comes first.
