The LunkerDaddy Late Model main event had extra incentive for drivers as a raffle held before the race paired female fans with drivers to win a $500 Mother’s Day prize package with: a manicure, pedicure, hair styling and massage from Aqua Essentials and Day Spa, limousine ride from HS Limousine Service, chocolate-covered strawberries and $100 at the Vineyard Restaurant.
Matt Erickson, the winner of that race, said that the extra prizes were just icing on the cake.
“That’s what racing’s all about,” Erickson said. “It’s all about the fans.”
Rebecca Powers, 21, was the fan paired with Erickson and the winner of the prizes.
However, as she stood in the winner’s circle she called out to Barbara Hart – mother of the night’s Hobby Stocks winner Ryan Hart and late-model driver Roy Hart – to give her everything.
Powers said she felt Hart deserved the prizes more than her, thus the generous gift.
“I mean, I’m not a mom,” Powers said. “So I didn’t deserve those prizes. They should go to a mom, and a racing mom too.”
“This is wonderful,” said Hart, surprised by the gesture and a wide smile on her face. “I’ve never had chocolate-covered strawberries before, and the massage and everything, it’s just great.”
With her son winning his race and the prizes, Hart said it was the perfect Speedway Mother’s Day.
“I couldn’t be happier,” Hart said.
Other winners on the night included: Kevin Thompson in the MST’s and the 18-second Bracket Race and Katie Briggs in the 4-Bangers.
