Van Genderen Masters Canyon Dirt

PEORIA, Ariz. – Mike Van Genderen made the most of the 1,500 mile trek from Newton, Iowa, by taking the $5,000 winner’s share in Saturday night’s 40-lap IMCA Modified main event that put the wraps on the 25th Annual IMCA Desert Classic at Canyon Speedway Park.

While Van Genderen took the big money in the headliner, Ty Weidner scored the Viper Smart Start Pure Stock win, John Romero bested the Renegades and Chaz Baca, Jr., topped the Mod Lites.

Van Gendered raced from his front row outside starting position to take the checkered flag ahead of Missouri’s Dustin Boney, who rallied from 16th for runner-up honors. Another Show Me stater, Jeremy Payne, claimed the show position, with track champion Jason Noll and Tim Ward rounding out the top five.

Ty Weidner raced from fifth for his first Pure Stock victory of the year in front of Matt Martinez, Steve Bitting, Joe Vlasity and Ty Warner.

John Romero charged from ninth to snare his fifth Renegade win of the year ahead of Joe Flewelling and Jason Crowe while Chaz Baca, Jr., nabbed his third Mod Lite win of the season.
