Rutz Puts Skagit Season To Bed


ALGER, Wash. — Skagit Speedway put the 2012 racing season to an end Saturday night in grand fashion with two new track records and great main events.

Kenny Rutz ran a blistering 12.300 second lap to set a new sportsman sprint track record in qualifying. The new mark shattered the former record by half a second. Rutz then led the back half of the 30-lap main event to win going away over Dylan Dunham, Skyler Pawlowicz, Lee Dakus and Ashley Lewellen. Heat race winners were Cale Brooke, Martin Koetje and Steve Parker.

In the Outlaw Hornet races season champion Freddie Vela set a new track record in qualifying with a 20.284 second lap.

The heat race wins went to Ben Gunderson and Patrick Adams. Ben Gunderson the 2012 Hornet Nationals Champion picked up the lead over father Jon Gunderson at near the halfway point and pulled away for the 25-lap victory.

Jon Gunderson was second and Clint Meins got his first podium finish of his career with a solid third place finish.
