PLACERVILLE, Calif. — Placerville Speedway is ready to kick off a busy month of racing with a double dose over Independence Day weekend, beginning on July 1.
This Saturday’s outing marks the seventh Red Hawk Casino championship point race of the season and features the Thompson’s Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Cars, limited late models, pure stocks and the traveling Bay Cities Racing Ass’n midgets.
A few nights later one of the biggest events of the year will occur with the much-anticipated Fourth of July show also doubling as Red Hawk Casino race eight. The Thompson’s Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Cars, limited late models, pure stocks and mini trucks will take the stage in front of what is always a packed house of fans.
The Thompson’s Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Cars will also be vying for $2,000-to-win the feature on Independence Day. The runner-up will take home $1,500 and third place will earn $1,200. The Ltd. Late Model feature will pay $600-to-win, $500 for second and $400 for third.
The Pure Stock A-main will award $500-to-win, $400 for second and $300 for third. Jay’s Mobile Welding has also added an additional $100 per car in the main event on top of the extra money for the pure stock class on July 4. They will also be handing out hot wheels to every child in attendance while supplies last.
Once the racing concludes the lights will go dark and everyone will be treated to a fireworks show to commemorate Independence Day.
“This is definitely going to be an exciting month of racing at Placerville Speedway and we’re all looking forward to getting it underway with a big Fourth of July weekend,” said RMI President Scott Russell. “Independence Day and racing always go hand in hand so we hope all the fans can make it out to both of the events this weekend. We’ve had a couple weeks off and everyone is eager to get back on the track. As always we encourage fans to arrive early on the Fourth of July and make a day out of it at the fairgrounds.”
Greg Decaires continues to lead the Thompson’s Auto Group Winged 360 Sprint Car standings at the helm of the Dale Miller Plumbing No. 4sa machine. The four-time champion has captured two main event wins and sits ahead of Jimmy Trulli, Steven Tiner, Jake Morgan and D.J. Freitas in the top five.
