EVERSON, Wash. – Night one of the Clay Cup Nationals is in the books, and as the dust settled, Jared Peterson and Tyson Cross picked up feature wins as they build momentum toward Saturday night’s finale.
In the 600 division, 51 cars signed in for action from all up and down the West coast. Heath Duinkerken set the early tone by taking quick time. Heats were competitive top to bottom with your winners being Austin Sheridan, Jared Peterson, Kyler Shaw, Blake Brigge, Brock Lemley and Trent Carter.
At the start of the A Main, Dougie James took to the early point on a very slick surface. Peterson, last weeks feature winner, found the bottom groove to his liking early, moving forward from fifth to second in short order.
With James unable to keep his car glued low, Peterson took advantage, sliding underneath Dougie coming out of turn two on the 11th lap to take the point. It was a position he would not relinquish through multiple caution flags, as the Stanwood, Wash., native won his third feature of the year at Deming Speedway and ninth overall in the Pacific Northwest.
Dylan Black charged up the field for second and Liam Ryan made a similar charge into the third finishing spot. Cory Eliason won the C Main and Brayden Planko won the B Main.
After battling motor and mechanical woes early n the evening, Tyson Cross put things together nicely in capturing the win in the 1200 class.
Cross took the lead on lap four from Zach Keefe and rolled away to the win with Wade Spreckelmeyer taking second and Brad Davison finishing third. Liam Ryan was quick time. Steven Hendrickson and Brock Lemley won the heat races.
