IRWINDALE, Calif. — Ryan Partridge and Mike Johnson drove to flag-to-flag victories in the Lucas Oil Late Model Twins and Toni McCray won her first Pick Your Part Super Late Model feature Saturday at Irwindale Speedway.
McCray also finished second to Partridge in the second Lucas Oil race and fourth to Johnson in the first. She drove 100 laps in the three races, 30 in each of the Late Models and 40 in the Super Late Model, on the half-mile track.
“It was a great night for us,” McCray said. “Our crew was busy keeping things together with two cars and three races.”
McCray and Jason Patison exchanged the lead four times in the Super Late Models.
Patison had a solid advantage over McCray when the caution came out for the only time in the race with 26 laps completed.
When the green flag waved for the restart, McCray bolted into the lead and Linny White also passed Patison for second.
“The shifter came out of the transmission,” Patison said. “I jammed it back in, but we got killed on the restart. I couldn’t get around Toni and Linny.”
McCray thought she was headed for second place.
“We didn’t have anything for Jason,” she said. “It feels great to get this victory.”
Johnsonstarted on pole and Partridge of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., was on the outside of the front row. They spent nearly the entire 30 laps racing side-by-side in the corners. Partridge was .043 of a second behind, less than a car length, at the checkered flag.
It was Johnson’s first victory of the season at Irwindale and he was third in the second Late Model Twins feature.
“We had a good night,” Johnson said. “We got back up there where we belong.”
