Martin Secures Bob Long Memorial

GIBSONTON, Fla. – Danny Martin, Jr. took home top honors after winning the combined Top Gun Sprint Car Series and East Bay Sprint Car Series Bob Long Memorial at East Bay Raceway Park Saturday.

On the front row for the sprint-car feature were Stephen Darvalics and Sport Allen. Allen took the early lead with Darvalics and Martin giving chase as they weaved through lapped traffic.

The first caution came out as Martin and Allen got together, with Allen coming to rest. That would put Martin in the lead with Tyler Godwin moving to second and Darvalics third.

On lap 17 the red flag came out as Tim Grubaugh flipped on the backstretch. Grubaugh was able to walk away. With just three laps to go, Jason Webster spun bringing out the final caution of the night.

Martin was able to hold off Godwin as they swapped positions a few times on the final laps. Darvalics was third with Smith and Gene Lasker rounded out the top five.

Other winners at East Bay Saturday were Will Rynd (Daytona Antique Auto Racing Ass’n Midget), Steve Parrish (DAARA six-cylinder), Donnie Reed (DAARA V8 stock), Roger Herbach (DAARA sprint-car), Roger Crouse (late-model) and Troy Dittebrand (four-cylinder bomber).
