Carolina Speedway Sets Hefty Point Fund

GASTONIA, N.C. – With racing season just around the corner, Carolina Speedway has announced a $10,000 point fund for 2013.

The ‘Go for the Grand Points Chase’ will see every division at Carolina Speedway pay at least $1,000 to the point championship winning drivers.

The system will work as follows. The first point race of 2013 will be Friday night March 15. Points will run weekly from that date until Friday night August 2nd. At the date the points will reset similar to the NASCAR Chase.

Any driver in the top five in points, as long as he/she has not missed more than two events will automatically be qualified along with any driver than has perfect attendance. There will be point bonuses for drivers than have earned victories. August 23rd will be the start of the ‘Go for the Grand Points Chase’ with the season ending event being Sept. 20th with Sept. 27th as a rain date.

“We wanted to spice up the points chase a little bit, but at the same time reward the drivers that support us,” said Carolina Speedway’s Clint Elkins. “This should make it fun for everyone and will definitely add some drama to the end of the season point battles.”

Carolina Speedway opens its gates for the 51st year of racing March 8-9 with the 13th running of the Skyler Trull Memorial.
