U.S. 30 Speedway Closes Championship Season

COLUMBUS, Neb. – U.S. 30 Speedway closed its point season Thursday night with five IMCA-sanctioned divisions, bringing 78 cars to the high-banked quarter-mile.

Four divisions had point battles, with only Cory Dumpert already clinching a title as the York, Neb., driver had the late model title locked up.

Stock cars led the main event list and Mike Nichols became the winningest IMCA driver ever when he used the outside line out of turn four to lead the last 17 laps to record his 558th IMCA win.

Mike Nichols was declared the stock car track champion after Dylan Smith was disqualified post-race.

In modifieds, Andy Eickhoff was on the backstretch leading on the final lap when the yellow flew. The restart saw a cluster at the front and Shane Hiatt split the group and led the final laps for the win.

Jordan Grabouski, the winningest driver in 2019 with 69 wins, finished second to win the championship, withstanding point pressure from Smith and Anthony Roth.

The hobby stock class saw a very close three-car race for the title. Ryan Rahman used the frontstretch low line to take the lead on lap three and recorded the win. Jason Wilkinson protected his two point lead to take the track title.

Northern sportmods were led by Trevor Noonan for five laps until Justin Svoboda ran the outer line in turn four to take over.

Svoboda withstood both many yellows and pressure from track champion Lance Bergman to collect the win.

Late models finished the evening and Dumpert showed why he claimed the track championship. After Robert Osborne had led 15 laps, his large lead was erased by Dumpert and a low turn four pass ended Osborne’s time in front.

A couple late race restarts posed no problem for Dumpert, who was followed across the line by Osborne and Jason Kubicka.
