Two Iowa Tracks Damaged By High Winds

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Monday’s brutal winds in central Iowa have caused damage at a pair of race tracks.

Marshalltown Speedway will be idle for an unknown length of time due to winds measured at 99 mph that caused severe damage.

Two light poles behind the grandstands were snapped at ground level like they were twigs and a catwalk viewing area in the pits was twisted and upended as well as other damage.

Promoter Toby Kruse is now looking at the 2020 season as an “if and when” it resumes.

Cedar County Speedway in Tipton, Iowa was also substantially damaged by what meteorologists are calling a derecho, an intense and fast moving windstorm.
