Garnhart Rides High Groove To Maquoketa Score

MAQUOKETA, Iowa – He knew it would be a decision.

Bryce Garnhart hit traffic, chose the high groove and wound his way to the 20-lap QCJeeps.com IMCA Modified feature Saturday evening at Maquoketa Speedway.

“I was low and then saw (Kory Meyer) run high,” Garnhart said in victory lane. “I was a little hesitant to try up there, but it worked.”

The Shannon, Ill., ace and track point leader got by Jake Bowman on lap 10 and held off Meyer, Timmy Current, Steve Johnson and Brock Bauman.

“I wasn’t sure of the traffic,” Garnhart added. “But we made our way through it even though I wasn’t sure where (lapped traffic) would go.”

The race was slowed only once by a yellow flag and that was on lap 16.

Todd Reed visited from the Fort Collins, Colo. area, jumped behind the wheel of his son Ryan’s B&D Pit Stop IMCA SportMod and won a wild 15-lap main event.

Only six of the 17 starters took the checkered flag. The final caution was for point leader Tyler Soppe and Jerry Miles. Working toward the white flag, Soppe led, but spun in turn one, collecting Miles. They restarted at the rear and raced back to third and fourth behind Aaron Hitt. Corey Kuntzelman rounded out the top five.

Damon Murty visited and survived a huge battle to win the GRE / REV Chassis IMCA Stock Car finale. Kyle Merkes, Chris Hinrichs, point leader Jimmy Comins and Dallon Murty followed.

Comins and Dallon Murty were 1-2 before connecting late and bringing out a caution.

Kile Vohringer used the high side and sped by Daniel Wauters to win the 15-lap Shawn’s Auto Service IMC Hobby Stock ender. Early leader Kyle Dulin, Lane Vohringer and Shane Oberbreckling came next.

Nick Proehl returned, started eighth and won the Obie’s Bar and Restaurant / B&C Liquor 4 Cylinder 12-lapper.  Point leader Ashley Reuman, Brett Marshall, Robbie Harding and Jamie Wood followed.
