Whitteker Stars On Night One Of Cornwall’s Fall Nationals

CORNWALL, Ontario – Luke Whitteker raced to victory in the 358 modified division during the opening night of the Fall Showdown at Canada’s Cornwall Motor Speedway on Friday evening.

Dalton Slack took the lead in the 50-lap Fat Les Chip Stands Canadian Nationals 358 modified feature over Whitteker and Kyle Dingwall. Whitteker took the lead on lap six using the middle lane as David Hebert got around Dingwall for third.

The leaders soon found themselves battling slower traffic with a dozen laps completed. Whitteker kept the lead as Hebert took second as they raced through traffic. The first caution came with 36 laps. On the restart, Whitteker kept the lead as Corey Wheeler challenged for second, but broke and the caution came out again on lap 38.

Whitteker made no errors during the ensuing restart and got the feature win over Hebert and Steve Bernier.

In the TAS Racing Sportsman feature, Gab Cyr took the lead at the start before Ryan Stabler began challenging him for the lead Stabler took the top spot on lap seven. The caution flag waved on the 30th lap for an incident involving Jarrett Herbison.

Cyr would eventually get the lead back during the race, only for Stabler to take the top spot back in the final laps to earn the victory. Cyr was second, with James Friesen completing the podium.

The 40-lap pro stock feature was won by Pascal Payeur, with James Clarke topping the 20-lap mini stock main event.
