MALTA, N.Y. — Kenny Tremont Jr. used the extreme outside groove to run down polesitter Jeff Trombley and post his first win of the season in Friday night’s 35-lap modified feature at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway.
Trombley built almost a half-track lead while the 11th starting Tremont clawed his way to third, then blew around Neil Stratton to take second on lap 15. He immediately began to cut into the leader’s advantage and when Trombley got bogged down in traffic on lap 23, Tremont went three wide, taking the lead for good with 10 to go.
“If you missed, you were going over the top of the banking,” offered the winner. “You always have to be careful up there, but tonight it was the fast way around again.”
Trombley checkered a distant second ahead of Matt DeLorenzo, Jeremy Wilder, Stewart Friesen, Ronnie Johnson and opening-night winner Brett Hearn.
Rob Yetman notched his second pro stock win of the season.
