MALTA, N.Y. — Brett Hearn claimed his third consecutive DIRTcar modified feature Friday night at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway, besting Fonda Speedway promoter Matt DeLorenzo and Ronnie Johnson in the 35-lap finale.
Hearn, who has had a perfect campaign since running second in the season opener, started 15th. By the first caution on lap 12 he had advanced to 9th and when green returned, he shot to sixth in turn one, then went three wide around Mike Perrotte and Johnson to show fourth behind early leader Rich Ronca, DeLorenzo and Brian Gleason on lap 14.
DeLorenzo got the lead from Ronca on lap 17 but three laps later Hearn muscled his way to the front and the race was effectively over, though DeLorenzo did make a late run before getting hung behind a lapped car with five to go. Jimmy Cottrell was fourth with Kenny Tremont Jr., Australian Peter Britten, opening-night winner Marc Johnson, Gleason, Jeremy Wilder and Ronca trailing.
The aptly-named Robbie Speed edged Nick Stone and Rob Yetman in the pro stock feature.
