MALTA, N.Y. — Polesitter Jamike Sowle didn’t lead the early laps Friday night at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway but the youngster got a terrific restart after a mid-race yellow and took command from race-long leader Pep Corradi.
After that, all he had to do was hold off all-time modified feature win leader Brett Hearn to earn his first ever win at the three-eighths-mile oval.
Hearn, who had come from 15th, was on Sowle’s bumper for a lap 29 restart but the youngster never got off his rim-riding line and was first under the checkers despite a last lap low groove surge by the region’s most accomplished modified racer. Ronnie Johnson was third ahead of Marc Johnson, up from the tenth row, with Matt DeLorenzo, Jeremy Wilder, Keith Flach and Kenny Tremont Jr. trailing.
DIRTcar Pro Stock kingpin Rob Yetman claimed his fourth feature of the season while Frank Hoard III claimed the AIM Warrior sponsored $1000-to-win Sportsman feature over Andy Durie and early leader Nick Lussier.
