Pappa The Man At Wacky Waterford

WATERFORD, Conn. – Matt Pappa continued his recent hot streak at Waterford Speedbowl by winning Wednesday’s Legends car feature.

Two early caution periods in the first two laps saw some wild and wacky action at the Speedbowl. Cory Dimatteo, Daniel Stolte and Timothy Heath were all eliminated from competition before racing could settle in.

Peter Cirilli jumped into the race lead over Joey Mucciacciaro, but Pappa stormed through the front runners into the lead on lap five.

Once the field settled into racing, Pappa was unstoppable at the front. Mucciacciaro continued to race second after getting around Cirilli, with Dana Dimatteo moving to third position ahead of a battle for fourth position between several cars.

Dave Garbo, Jr. raced the top groove two and three wide at times to emerge into the top-five runners. Former division champion Jason Palmer was another picking through the field on Garbo’s bumper.

Those two were fourth and fifth before the final caution was out on lap-10 at halfway, when debris in turn one erased Pappa’s lead.

Pappa was not challenged on the restart and resumed his lead. Dimatteo took second position from Mucciacciaro. Pappa stretched his lead to nearly seven lengths ahead the next three cars– Dimatteo, Mucciacciaro and Garbo, running tight in order three cars ahead of Palmer and Angelo Belsito.

On lap-18 Mucciacciaro reclaimed second position by racing to the inside of Dimatteo down the back chute. Out front, Pappa cruised to his sixth Wednesday series win of the year.

Mucciacciaro finished second, while Garbo Jr. and Dimatteo fought side-by-side for third over the final two laps with Garbo taking the position by inches at the checkered flag. Palmer rounded out the top-five.

Other winners at Waterford Wednesday included Jacob Perry (bandolero feature one), Jacob Urch (bandolero feature two), Ken Downing III (super x-car), Glen Thomas, Jr. (x-car) and Christopher Lee (wacky x-car toll booth race).
