Osmun Scores At New Egypt Speedway

NEW EGYPT, N.J. – Willie Osmun won his first feature of 2013 Saturday night as he captured the 30-lap 358 Modified event at New Egypt Speedway.

Osmun started sixth and after being passed in the early going by both Billy Pauch and Ryan Godown, he ran both of them down and then drove off to an impressive victory.

“The car really came to us during the second half of the race,” stated Osmun in victory lane, “It feels great to win for the Norcia team like my dad did so many times, hopefully this is the first of many!”

Rocco Infante grabbed the lead at the start of the event and again looked strong as he powered out to a sizeable advantage during the opening laps over Rick Holsten and Ron John Koczon. Five-time champion Billy Pauch, who started ninth, was in the top five by lap two and was wasting no time as he charged toward the front. He quickly moved up to second but found that he had his hands full trying to catch 3-time Sportsman champ Infante.

Lap 11 saw Pauch finally catch Infante and take the lead, as defending champ Godown was making a charge and he quickly moved into second. Osmun was biding his time in the back of the top five during this time, but as his car got stronger he began to advance moving into third by halfway and then quickly passing Godown for second. Osmun then began reeling in Pauch, cutting his lead in half when the yellow appeared on lap 18.

After one failed attempt to complete the next lap, Osmun was able to drive into turn one even with Pauch and drive around him off of turn two with the lead much to the delight of the crowd that was now on their feet. Pauch put the pressure on for the next two laps and it appeared that this was going to be a 10 lap battle royale between the two, however, Osmun then suddenly began to pull away and went on to win by seven car lengths at the finish for his fourth career Modified victory.

Pauch settled for second followed by Godown. David Van Horn made a late race charge nipping Ron John Koczon at the line for fourth as Koczon finished fifth. The weekly $500 to win Heat races went to Koczon and Pauch.

Kyle Bostick won his first ever feature event in the FASTRAK Crate Sportsman 20 lapper. Bostick took the lead with 5 laps to go from race long leader Doug Urbano and then held off young Mike Carman for the victory. Carman settled for a strong second, followed by Urbano, Ryan Simmons and Chuck Steuer.

Jeff Schall took top honors In the TriState RaceSaver 305 Sprint Series event. Schall looked powerful throughout the race powering away and each and every restart to win his second career feature at the central Jersey speedplant. Joe Lord came home second, pursued by Phil Meisner Jr. in third. Mike Haggenbottom and Jamie Kostic rounded out the top five.

In the HCI/Spike-N-Go Rookie Sportsman race of 2013, Jesse Rozycki of Phillipsburg, NJ took home his first win in the 10 lap event, besting the field of 13 Rookies in the second race in the series. Opening night winner Chuckles Stone finished second and Ryan Cox was third.

In the Fastrak Late Model 15-lap feature, Sean Frey captured his first ever victory in only his second attempt. Skip Syester and P.J. Oliver chased him across the line in second and third respectively.
