MALTA, N.Y. — Mark Kislowski fought off veteran Kenny Tremont Jr for some 25 laps Friday night to win his first Albany-Saratoga Speedway modified feature, in the process matching his first Fonda Speedway victory earlier in the season.
The eighth-starting Tremont managed to catch polesitter Kislowski and even got alongside once, on lap 13, but that was as close as he got to the lead.
At the checkers, 11th starting Marc Johnson was third ahead of Peter Britten and front-row starter Rich Scagliotta, with Ronnie Johnson, Matt DeLorenzo, Jeremy Wilder, Mike Perrotte and Jimmy Cottrell trailing.
The leaders ran in traffic from lap 24 to a caution on lap 30 but Kislowski never faltered and the rim-riding Tremont, who could catch the leader going into the turns, gave it back before they hit the next straightaway. The third-running Scagliotto then took a shot at the runnerup on the final restart but instead let Johnson down inside him and lost two spots over the final five laps.
Connor Cleveland thrilled the crowd with a charge from mid-pack to claim his second consecutive Sportsman feature, passing Nick Lussier on the final lap with Frankie Hoard III in tow to drop the race long leader to third.
