Hicken Rules Mike Stevens Memorial

RIVER GLADE, New Brunswick – Jonathan Hicken capped off the Petty Int’l Raceway season with his third triumph in the Mike Stevens Memorial Saturday night.

Hicken, who previously won the race in 2015 and 2016, led more than two thirds of the laps en route to the victory in the 200-lap pro stock/super late model feature.

The victory was worth $10,000 and after contingency awards, lap leader money and the Bumper to Bumper $3,000 Petty Pro Stock Challenge, the win was worth more than $20,000 for the No. 5 Chapman Brothers Construction team.

Hicken was pressured in the first portion of the race by Ashton Tucker until pit stops put the No. 2 car back in traffic. Dave O’Blenis was able to capitalize and race for the win with Hicken, but it was Hicken who ultimately came out the winner.

O’Blenis was second while Tucker fought traffic to come home in third. The AutoRite Service Centre Time Trial winner Robbie MacEwen was fourth while Nicholas Naugle snuck by Sarah McKay in the closing laps to take fifth.

Eight cautions slowed the 200-lap race, which took one hour, 27 minutes to complete.

Laurie Cormier won the late model sportsman portion of the Mike Stevens Memorial. The final caution flag waved with five laps to go, setting up a mad dash for the front runners.

When the dust finally settled, it was Luc Bourgeois and AE McKay Builders Late Model Sportsman champion Jordan Veinotte joining Cormier on the podium.

Colton Noble capped off his Leisure Days RV Bandolero Outlaw season with a victory on Saturday during the Mike Stevens Memorial. Kelsea Lewis raced to her first feature win in the Leisure Days RV Beginner Bandoleros while Ayden Christensen won the season long championship. Braden Langille won the 50-lap INEX Legend feature.
