MALTA, N.Y. — Brett Hearn topped the 800 win mark last summer and the way he’s going this season, 900 may be a realistic goal as well.
Friday night he claimed yet another 35-lapper at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway, marching from 13th to the lead and driving away from the field.
A first-lap melee on the backstretch sent Chris Johnson flying over four other spinning modifieds, with the second try bringing yet another yellow while allowing consi-winner Kenny Tremont Jr. to shoot past arch-rival Hearn into the lead pack.
By lap 10 Tremont was fourth and Hearn sixth but two laps later the “Jersey Jet” got under Tremont and went to work on the top three.
Justin Delaney, J.C. Flach and leader Matt Depew fell in rapid order and as the lap counter hit the 20’s Hearn was in command. Delaney advance to second at the checkers, with Depew third after a back and forth battle with late dropout Tremont.
Jeff Trombley was fourth ahead of Matt DeLorenzo, Marc Johnson and the region’s other big winner of 2012, Stewart Friesen, on hand due to his regular Friday night track being closed due to wet grounds. Flach, Donnie Corellis and Bob Savoie rounded out the top 10.
Support class winners included Chip Smith in the pro stocks and Andy Durie in the budget sportsmen.
