MALTA, N.Y. — Stewart Friesen and Brett Hearn shared the limelight Friday night at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway, with the fleet Canadian blasting from 13th to the lead in 10 laps to snare the modified feature and Hearn claiming yet another DIRTcar track championship after coming home fourth.
Front row starters Neil Stratton and Rich Ronca tussled early on but the big dogs were on the move from the drop of the green. Hearn from 14th and Kenny Tremont Jr. from 19th were both in the top 10 inside 10 laps, but unfortunately for them, Friesen had chewed his way to second behind Ronca for a lap ten restart and got the lead with a high side move when the green reappeared.
Tremont then shot down fellow chargers Hearn and Matt DeLorenzo and everyone else between him and Friesen by halfway but by then, the leader was out to a full straightaway advantage and the deal was sealed.
DeLorenzo came home third ahead of Hearn, Rich Ronca, Don Ronca, newcomer Jimmy Davis, teenager Bodie Bellinger, Ronnie Johnson and Marc Johnson.
Tim Hartman Jr. recovered from an early scramble to win the extra distance, extra purse Crate Sportsman feature with a late pass of race-long leader John Miller. Jeremy Pitts was third.
