PORT COLBORNE, Ontario – Third generation driver James Michael Friesen earned his first victory of the season in the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman division during the All Canadian Championships presented by the Reeb House at New Humberstone Speedway Sunday evening.
Jorden Peters picked up his third Cosco Haulage RUSH Late Model feature of the season. Lee Winger earned his second win of the season for the JC Auto Street Stocks. Rob Goulding picked up his first victory of the season for the TC Decals Mini Stocks. Sam Pennacchio earned his seventh victory of the season for the Mike Knapp Ford Pro 4 Trucks.
Cody McPherson and B.J. Willard led the PC Works DIRTcar Sportsman for their 50 lap All Canadian Championship main event with McPherson showing the way with Willard and defending Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Champion Brad Rouse in the top three. Austin Wood raced in fourth as James Michael Friesen passed Jeff Armstrong to move into the top five. Wood would pass Rouse to move into third place on lap five and quickly went after the dueling cousins, McPherson and Willard. Jordan Cosco slowed in turn four to bring out the races first caution on lap 10.
The restart saw the cousins going side by side for the lead with Willard taking over the lead on lap 11. Willard would pull away from McPherson with Wood, James Michael Friesen (JMF) and Brad Rouse in the top five on lap 15 as defending track champion Gary Lindberg started to make his move towards the front. Friesen would go underneath Wood to take over third place on lap 18. Justin Sharp spun in turn one to bring out the second caution of the event on lap 20.
The restart saw Willard back in the lead as Friesen passed McPherson for second. McPherson would regain the spot just one lap later. McPherson and Friesen would battle for the runner up spot as Wood, Rouse and Lindberg battled for fourth. Friesen would regain the second spot at the lap 25 cross flags. Brad Rouse spun after Austin Wood made contact to bring out the caution on lap 25. The restart saw Willard in the lead as Lindberg and McPherson battled for third. Willard would keep running the outside groove as Friesen went to work on the bottom of the race track to try to reel in the leader.
The caution would come out once again on lap 30 for A.J. Lewis who spun on the back stretch. The lap 30 restart saw Willard showing the way as Matt Sharpe, Justin Sharp, and Jay Mallory spun in turn three to bring out the caution. The restart saw JMF take over the lead from Willard as McPherson regained the runner up spot with Lindberg moving into third, dropping Willard back to fourth. Friesen pulled away from McPherson as Lindberg, Willard and Jason Moore were racing in the top five as Brad Rouse was back up to sixth after his mid-race skirmish. Friesen would hit lap traffic on lap 40.
Lindberg and McPherson made contact with Lindberg suffering damage and causing the caution on lap 43. The late race restart saw Friesen pull away from McPherson as Rouse moved into the runner up spot after McPherson had a push entering turn three. Willard went to the outside to regain the runner up spot from Rouse. Friesen would pull away to pick up the victory.
Rob Pietz and Paul Grigsby were on the front row for the All Canadian Championship 25 lap main event for the Cosco Haulage RUSH Late Models with Pietz taking command. Rob Ledingham would challenge Grigsby for second early on and would complete the pass on lap five as Jorden Peters also passed Grigsby to take over third. Peters would then go after Ledingham for second and completed the pass down the back stretch to take over second on lap six.
The caution came out for the first time on lap seven for debris. The restart saw Jorden Peters take over the lead from Pietz with Grigsby, Ledingham and Dennis Lunger Jr racing in the top five. Pietz would go underneath Peters to regain the lead on lap 10. Grigsby and Ledingham made contact as Grigsby took over third and Lunger moved into fourth. Lunger went to the outside of Grigsby for third and completed the pass on lap 21. Peters and Pietz went side by side with Peters regaining the lead with three laps remaining. Peters pulled away from Pietz to pick up the victory.
