Black Rock Opener Postponed


DUNDEE, N.Y. – A promising forecast for this Saturday provided some hope that racing could occur at Black Rock in March, but the cruel winter made that impossible for this year.

On Wednesday, Black Rock Speedway owner Dean Hoag decided to cancel the 2013 Rock Launcher. The BRS crew had been hopeful for getting the season off as scheduled with the grounds and much of the four-tenths-mile oval in race-ready condition, but the weather-exposed portions of turns three and four were far too soft and would have created a destructive situation if raced on.

Because of the timing of the event, none of the races have been rescheduled as of yet. There is still a possibility that additional races could be added at a later date to replace those lost this weekend.

The loss of the Rock Launcher now means the 2013 Black Rock Speedway opener will be April 19.
