WALL, N.J. – Matt Hirschman scored his second-straight victory in the annual Turkey Derby tour-type modified feature at Wall Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Hirschman started the 150-lap feature second alongside Danny Bohn. Hirschman chased Bohn during the first-half of the race until a caution flag on lap 81 set up pit stops for the field. Hirschman came off pit road near the front of the pack, but got busted for speeding and was sent to the rear of the field.
Bohn, who opted not to pit during the lap 81 caution, maintained the lead during several caution flags between lap 81 and lap 109. During that time, Hirschman was able to work his way from the tail of the lead lap to ninth on the grid.
By lap 114 Hirschman had worked his way up to third behind Bohn and Rowan Pennink. Bohn finally opted to pit during a caution flag on lap 120, handing the lead to Pennink. During the following restart Hirschman made his move, powering by Pennink on the outside to take the race lead.
Hirschman survived two more restarts to beat Doug Coby to the finish line to capture the Turkey Derby for tour-type modifieds. Pennink finished third, followed by 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Ryan Preece and Mike Bohn.
Other feature winners on Saturday included Anthony Sesely (SK modifieds), Ken Matlach (limited late models), Joey Payne (dirt modifieds) and Eric Paules (TQ midgets).
