MAPLE PARK, Ill. — Sycamore Speedway hosted its 55th stock car season opener on Saturday night with Jeremy Spoonmore winning the late model stock car 25 lapper.

With IMCA modifieds also highlighting the opening night action, Jeff Larson won the 30-lap main event for the open-wheel stockers.

A field of 15 started the late model headliner on the one-third mile dirt oval with Greg Cantrell jumping into the lead at the start.  Two laps were in the books when the first of five yellow flags appeared with Cantrell giving up the top spot and going to the pits during the caution period.  Spoonmore and his No. 22 inherited the lead and set sail on the restart with Jeff Kerley putting the pressure on.

With yellow flags slowing the action, Reno Markham moved up through the field and challenged Kerley for second place and began to reel in Spoonmore as the laps wound down.  At the checkered flag, it was Spoonmore and Markham followed by Kerley, Charlie Spoonmore, Jimmy Klingel and Cantrell.

Larson took home his second IMCA modified feature win in as many nights as he also won at Darlington, Wis., on Friday. Coming from his eighth starting spot in the 13-car field, Larson took the lead with about six laps in the books and went on to score the victory with almost a half-lap lead over second place finisher Johnny Whitman at the checkered flag.

Zach “Zuby” Zuberbier won the 20-lap main event for street stock competitors.  Stacy Doris was the winner of the 15-lap pure stock feature with Johnny Lovett taking top honors in the 10-lap Hornets (four-cylinder) division headliner.
