Meyers Doubles Up At Eagle Valley

JIM FALLS, Wis. – Fantastic weather greeted fans at the Eagle Valley Speedway on Sunday.

BOB 99.9 FM sponsored all six classes of racing with the WISSOTA AMSOIL dirt track series WISSOTA Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, EVS Pure Stocks, and EVS Hornets on Kid’s Night. Feature winners included Curt Meyers winning twice, Tommy Richards, Grant Southworth, Doug Wojcik, George Richards, and Scott Westaby.

At intermission, all the kids in the grandstand were allowed onto the track where they met all of the drivers and saw their cars up close. They received various treats from the drivers along with pictures and autographs. Once again Kris Oium Blacktop and Kelly Oium Well Drilling gave away two bicycles to a lucky boy and girl in the crowd, just as they do every week at Eagle Valley Speedway.

The Modified field was headed by Steve Hallquist and Steve Lavasseur with Hallquist taking the early lead and Lavasseur settling into second. Third starting Curt Myers worked his way into second and then tried to track down the leader. With Hallquist on the bottom and driving flawlessly, leading the first 18 laps, Myers moved up the track slightly and inched into the lead with two laps to go.

He secured the spot coming to the white flag and won his second feature of the night, his second modified feature for the weekend and his fourth overall feature win for the week. Hallquist finished a strong second, Lavasseur had a great run for third, Jay Richardson, and the seventh starting Mike Anderson was the only driver to finish in the top five that didn’t start in the top five.

The Super Stocks were led to the green by Matt McEathron and Jim Harris with Harris taking the early lead on a fantastic start. Eric Olson on the high side and Tommy Richards in the low groove set off to track down the leader. The caution flew for a spinning Scott Geiger with four laps complete, resetting the field. On the restart, Olson worked low in an attempt to steal the lead, but a four car crash drew the caution again.

As the green flew, another spin brought the race to a halt. On the third attempt, Harris again controlled the point as Olson worked low and Richards high seeking the lead. Richards found the lead and Mark Stender entered the fray passing Olson for third. By the halfway point, Olson had motored to second and tenth starting Curt Meyers had found his way to third. Myers took second and in the last few laps, rapidly closed on Richards for the lead.

He pulled even for the point at the white flag but a caution for a spinning Jason Vokovan reset the field for a green, white, checkered restart. Again, once racing, they drew even, but again the race was slowed do to a caution. Another attempt to restart was successful as Meyers pulled outside of Richards at the white flag and raced to the win on the final lap. He was followed very closely by Richards and Olson. Stender and Harris rounded out the top five. It was Meyers second Super Stock feature win in as many nights and his ninth Super Stock feature win of the year.

Bob Wood and Antonio Pintaro paced the Midwest Modified field to the green for their feature event as there was a three wide race on lap one for the lead. Fourth starting Nathan Thums won the battle for the lead on lap two, followed by Wood and Pintaro. Thums continued his fine run until a Jason Richardson spin reset the field.

He continued to lead on the restart, but seventh starting Grant Southworth drove low into the lead and Shane Halopka followed into second. Pintaro’s fine run ended on lap 12 as he spun running in fifth. On the restart, Southworth held strong to win his fourth feature of the season, followed closely by Halopka. The remainder of the top five included eleventh starting Joe Chaplin, Thums, and Josh Smith.

The Street Stock feature was brought to green by Travis Hazelton and Cody Kummer as a seven car feature had four drivers with a combined 30 feature wins on the season. Kummer grabbed the early lead and entered a terrific battle with Danny Richards. However, a lap three spin by Hazelton drew the caution.

On the restart, Richards worked high and Doug Wojcik entered the fray and drove low for several laps with Wojcik securing the lead at the halfway point. Last starting Mike Knudtson raced to third as Adam Soltis and Kummer battled for fourth. At the finish, Wojcik won his seventeenth feature of the season, followed by Richards, Soltis, Knudtson, and Kummer.

Troy Potaczek and Todd Roshell filled the front row for the Pure Stock feature but a first lap spin reset the field. After a complete restart, third starting Clay Potaczek drove to the lead and continued to lead to the halfway point. George Richards used the high line to real in the leader and take the point. He never looked back as he cruised to his fifteenth feature win of the season. Potaczek remained close for second as Mike Knopps, Dalton Hazelton, and Talon Laabs rounded out the top five.

The EVS Hornets were paced by Scott Westaby and Jay Welk with Westaby leading early and often. Welk and Armond love battled for second as Welk secured the spot. Mike Peters closed to battle with Love for third and he too won the position. Westaby went unchallenged to a dominating win, followed by Welk, Peters, Love, and Ashley Seidler.
