KNOXVILLE, Iowa – Knoxville Raceway’s opening night set for Saturday has been postponed due to more than six inches of rain earlier this week and the continued cool temperatures.
The Lucas Oil Knoxville Championship Cup Series opening night will now be held on April 27.
“I want to race as bad as anybody but we don’t want to make our first night of action at the Raceway a big question mark for our drivers,” said John McCoy, Knoxville race director. “The 410 class will be on a new tire, we have six rookies, absolutely no laps on the track for anybody and a forecast high temperature of 43 for 8:00 p.m. tomorrow night. All these issues combined make opening night a large hurdle for us and all of our competitors.”
The season opener will feature more than 80 drivers competing for the $35,000 purse and a points fund that exceeds $250,000 annually.
