Hurst Closes Dubuque Fair In Winning Fashion

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Jeremiah Hurst put his right-rear tire up by the wall for 30 laps and won the Eichman’s Bar and Grill IMCA Modified feature Sunday evening at Dubuque Speedway to close out the county fair.

“I haven’t won too many fair races,” Hurst said in victory circle. “It’s great to do it with this crowd and on this track.”

Hurst, already crowned the track champion, mastered the high groove with TylerBruening giving chase practically the entire distance.

“I heard him and then saw him try low,” Hurst added. “This was a great call by the crew on the setup. It was a tough race up high for 30 laps, but here we are.”

Bruening helped put on arguably the best late model show at Dubuque all season. He beat John Emerson, Eric Pollard and Luke Goedert to John Ryan’s checkered flag.

Jeff Larson sped up the middle of the race track, took the lead about halfway through and checked out to win the 20-lap Merfeld Brothers Automotive IMCA Modified feature.

Troy Cordes, Matt Gansen, Mark Schulte and Timmy Current rounded out the top five.

Gansen led early, but fell short in the quest to sweep the Dubuque fair races. He took the win Wednesday.

Tyler Soppe gave credit to a wide racing surface en route to the Peosta Warehousing Logistics IMCA SportMod 15-lap win.

Soppe took the top spot when Jason Roth broke while leading for the third straight race. Austin Heacock, Mitch Manternach, Jerry Miles and Wes Digman all were within reaching distance at the checkers.

Point leader Cole Mather outran Kyle Merkes, Joe Zrostlik, David Balik and Kenny Taylor in the K Motorsports IMCA Stock Car 12-lap main.

Daniel Wauters continued his winning ways in the Kinsella Concrete IMCA Hobby Stocks, taking the 12-lap finale. Lukas Short, Daryl Moss, Scott Ellis and Brandon White followed.

Moline, Illinois’ Eric Stogdell made his visit payoff with the 10-lap 4 Cylinder win. He beat Brandon Bechen, Ryan Havel, Rick Hempstead and his dad Ken Stogdell in a competitive event that showed four different leaders.

Austin Honts sped his 1930 Plymouth to the Midwest Jalopies 12-lap victory over Kile Vohringer, early leader Jeff Blunt, Tom Honts and Kurt Zimmerman.

Ron Barker won in front of his hometown crowd to take the Nostalgia Stock Car Race Club 12-lap feature. Eric Sanders, Brian Ashmore, Mark Claeys and Jeff Walker followed.

A total of 94 race teams showed to a huge fair night crowd and the last checkered flag flew about 10 p.m.
