LOVES PARK, Ill. — Rockford Speedway officials have revealed the track’s 2011 schedule, which features 48 events during the 64th consecutive season of racing at the quarter-mile asphalt oval.
The Stone and Double T 200 Enduro will kick the season off April 9, followed by the 34th annual Spring Classic April 17, with the Big 8 Series late models and Mid-American Stock Car Series in action. Weekly Saturday night racing action begins April 23.
The Gilley’s Cool 5 Series, which boasts over $12,000, is expected to attract top teams to Rockford Speedway for events on May 21, June 25, July 23, Aug. 27 and Sept. 30. Also new this year will be a July 3 open wheeled event featuring the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series and Illini Midgets. The ‘All-Star 100’ will see the Jeg’s All-Star Tour invade Rockford for a late-model doubleheader.
A School Bus Jump May 28, The Original Trailer Race of Destruction June 18, The Figure 8 Trailer Race Aug. 6 and the Night of Thrills Sept. 17 highlight the thrills and spills throughout the calendar year.
More than 150 machines took the green flag during last year’s Goblin 250 Enduro, which this year will take place Oct. 23, with the Darkhorse Demolition Derby once again taking center stage during this fall tradition.
The 46th annual National Short Track Championship will take place Sept. 30-Oct. 2 Returning to the weekend’s schedule of events will be the Illinois Vintage Stock Cars, the popular Pit Stop Contest and new for 2011, the ASA Kwik Trip Midwest Tour late models in a 200 lap contest.
Two weeks later Rockford Speedway will celebrate the 20th Bahama Bracket Nationals, a unique event that pits race cars from all venues against one another in various speed brackets.
