Williams Grove Sets 2013 Sprint Schedule

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. -– Williams Grove Speedway has released its 2013 schedule of events for sprint cars, with opening day set for March 22, featuring both the 410 and 358 sprint cars.

A pair of test and tune Bug Day programs will pre-date the season opener, taking place from 1 to 4 p.m. on March 10 and 17. The sessions will be open to 410 and 358 sprints, super sportsman, 358 late models and street stocks.

In all, the high-powered, marquee division 410 sprint cars will compete in 35 programs during the 2013 Williams Grove season with many of the regular high profile, high-dollar events returning for another round.

The 358 sprint cars will launch their 2013 campaign along with the 410 sprints on March 22 before returning 15 more times during the season along with three other occasions when they will compete in tandem with the URC 360-powered sprints.

The first big local race of the season for the mud-slinging 410 sprints comes up on April 19 at Williams Grove when the Spring Classic Tommy Hinnershitz Memorial is staged while kicking off the 2013 Diamond Series of races.

The Diamond Series is run each season comprised of a handful of the biggest oval races of the year, carrying their own points and a payoff at season’s end.

Other big local 410 sprint races in 2013 include a pair of Pennsylvania Speedweek shows this season as Williams Grove begins the tradition of kicking off the series Friday, June 28 before returning on July 5 with the granddaddy of Speedweek, the Mitch Smith Memorial.

Twin 20s for 410 sprints will be spun off on August 16 before the Jack Gunn Memorial, honoring the late Hall of Fame promoter returns on Aug. 30. However there will be no triple 20s in 2013, as has been the case for the Gunn race the last several years.

A twinbill of 410 and 358 sprints will make up the Billy Kimmel Memorial on Sept. 1.

The World of Outlaws 410 sprint cars will be back at Williams Grove Speedway for their customary six annual shows at the historic oval spanning three weekends from May through October.

The May weekend WoO stand spans May 17-18. The Summer Nationals for the World of Outlaws will take place July 19-20 before the premier drivers in the sport return to the Grove for the 51st annual World of Outlaws National Open on Oct. 4-5.

The All Star Circuit of Champions Sprints will be hosted at Williams Grove on two occasions during the 2013 season, first appearing on April 26 and then again on June 14.

The season will come to a close on Oct. 26 with the Fall Fest features-only program for 410 and 358 sprints, super sportsman and 358 late models.

Starting time for all sprint car events at the track in 2013 has again been set for 7:30 p.m. with warm-ups slated to take place 30 minutes prior.
