Two New Winners In Clearfield

CLEARFIELD, Pa. – Dwayne Taneyhill won his first Randy Sterling Late Model feature at America’s Motorsports Park Saturday night while Darrin Thompson copped his first Clearfield County Metals Four Cylinder main of the season.

Repeat winners include Denny Fenton in the Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub Semi Lates, Curtis Teats in the Harter and Sons Garage Street Stocks and Hunter McCracken in the Quigley’s Pub Pure Stocks.

The Late Model feature began with 19 cars answering Allen Luzier’s green flag with Tom Decker Jr. beating George Dixon Jr. off the line at the start with a multi-car crash regrouping the field and sending Duane Stiner to the pits for the night.

The race saw a number of cautions, but Dwayne Taneyhill sat in second and Bill Davis was third, with Luke Hoffner, Dan Gill and Dixon battling for the fourth. As the leader continued to be Decker with Taneyhill in second the fight for third was heating up, as the battle continued to be three wide often. Disaster struck for Davis on lap 18, as Davis had the center break out of a wheel, forcing him to stop while third, as Denny Fenton had nowhere to go and slammed into Davis.

The final seven laps went non-stop with Decker leading the way to the finish for his first apparent win, but when he crossed the scales he came up light, not once but twice. The official top five at the finish were: Taneyhill winning over Hoffner, Dixon, Tom Vilello and Gill. Heat race wins went to Taneyhill, Dixon and Randy Sterling.

The Semi Late feature saw five cars making the call with Chad Desmett leading the first lap from his front row starting spot. By lap two, Denny Fenton took the lead and went on to grab his sixth win of the season. John Eckenrod was second with Randy Sterling, Dylan Fenton and Desmett completing the top five. Eckenrod won the heat.
