Old Dominion Speedway Shuttered

MANASSAS, Va. – Old Dominion Speedway, which has been in operation for 65 years, will not open in 2013.

Created by the Gore family after they purchased the assets of Longview Speedway in 1951, Old Dominion Speedway combined the East Coasts first drag strip with a paved lighted banked oval track. The venue has played host to weekly racing as well as NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series from 1958 to 1966.

Steve Britt, the owner of the historic venue since 2003, has announced plans to build a new facility to replace Old Dominion.

The new venue, dubbed Dominion Raceway, is expected to be located in Virginia’s Spotsylvania County.
