Mauriello Scores First Wall Modified Triumph

WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Second generation driver Eric Mauriello raced to his first ever Modified stock car victory at Wall Stadium Saturday night after wrestling his way to the front of the pack.

The Howell resident was the 2012 Sportsman class champion.

Fellow Modified rookie Chris Lane was impressive as he jumped to the lead at the outset and fought off the challenges of Shaun Carrig, Brick’s Shawna Ingraham and Adam LaCicero through a series of caution flag triggered restarts. All the while, Mauriello was weaving the Dick Barney owned No. 14 through the field.

Mauriello finally moved into contention just past the half way mark of the 40-lap race before taking the lead with 16 laps remaining. He then fought off Toms River’s Jonathan Mandato to the checker flag. Lane, Carrig and LaCicero wrapped up the top five.

“I’ve been waiting a long time for this,” Mauriello said even though he has been racing in the headline division for less than a year. “To drive Dick Barney’s No. 14 is a dream come true. Some of the very best in racing have driven for him over the years.”
