MINERSVILLE, Pa. — Ryan Godown made the right call.
Feeling under the weather all day due to an illness, Godown considered skipping Friday night’s program at Big Diamond Speedway.
However, an early afternoon decision to compete paid off to the tune of $2,000 for the Ringoes, N.J., driver. Godown drove Johnny Rea’s No. R1 to his first victory of the season in the 25-lap The Station House 358-Modified headliner.
Paul Kline (U.S.S. Achey Sportsman) and Kevin Olenick (Wooden Keg Tavern Roadrunners) earned their second victories of the season during a fast-paced night at the Schuylkill County oval. The final checkered flag flew at 10:40 p.m. for the three-division program.
“I wasn’t sure if we were coming tonight because I’ve been sick,” Godown said following his fourth career Big Diamond victory. “About 1 o’clock this afternoon, I decided to race. I’m glad we did. We needed a win to turn our year around.”
Jeff Strunk, Rick Laubach, Keith Hoffman and Meme DeSantis completed the top five.
