Edwards Smokes Langley Foes

HAMPTON, Va. — Greg Edwards smoked the field in flag-to-flag style to nab his third win of the season in the Fueled by Bacon 150 presented by Smithfield Foods for the ComServe/Verizon Wireless Late Model Stock Cars, the featured event of Saturday evening’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program at Langley Speedway.

Edwards started on the pole, at 89.271 mph, and pulled ahead of front-row colleague Matt Waltz to grab the lead as the green flag flew.

Nick Smith, who started third, snagged the runner-up spot from Waltz and set off after the leader. As the laps clicked off, though, Edwards distanced himself from the pack.

Edwards was up by a full straightaway when the only caution flag waved on lap 89.

Back under green, Edwards slipped away, while Mark Wertz swiped second from Smith.

Wertz held onto the runner-up position until lap 116 when Smith regained the spot, bringing Casey Wyatt along with him, to third.

At the finish, Edwards was the winner by nearly half a straightaway over Smith.

Wyatt and Wertz staged a spirited battle for third in the closing circuits with Wyatt taking the spot.

After starting on the outside pole, Waltz struggled in the early going, drifting back to fifth. Repeated pit stops during the only caution period seemed to help, though.

By the end, Waltz had drawn to within a couple car-lengths of the Wyatt/Wertz tussle, coming home in fifth.

Jimmy Humblet started on the pole and wired the field for his second straight win in the 50-lap Larry King Law Modified feature.

Polesitter Chris Hildebrand led all the way to capture his first victory of the season in a 25-lapper for the Cycle City Corp. INEX Legends.

Landon Florian assumed the top spot on lap 29 and led the final two circuits to post his third win in the 30-lap KeesVacations.com Pro Six race.

Michael Waters picked up the lead on lap 14 and showed the way to his first career win in the 25-lap KeesVacations.com Super Truck race.

Justin Fuller regained the lead on lap 21 and rolled to his third win in the 25-lap Carroll’s Automotive UCAR race.

Bradley Kilby took the lead on lap 3 and held on at the end for his first victory in a 15-lapper for the East Coast Synthetics INEX Bandoleros.
