NEWBERRYTOWN, Pa. – Justin Barger took the victory in the seventh annual Sprint Car Summer Classic at the Susquehanna Speedway Park Sunday night.
It was Barger’s first career 410 sprint car feature win. Kevin Nouse collected the 358 sprint car 20 lapper.
Polesitter Austin Hogue took the early lead of the 25-lap 410 sprint car feature with Aaron Ott nad Justin Barger in tow. The trio entered lapped traffic con the eighth circuit. Midway through the race, Barger and Ott swapped spots many times and kept Hogue very close in their sights. The lone caution of the race appeared on lap 15 to close up the field and remove the lead pack from lapped traffic. On the restart, Barger was able to get by Hogue to lead the 16th lap.
With two laps to go, the trio entered lapped traffic again and Ott was able to claim the runner-up spot from Hogue. With not enough time left to challenge Barger, the race ended with Barger taking the checkers over Ott and Hogue. Greg Hodnett finished fourth with Kyle Moody rounding out the top five. Heat race wins went to Hodnett, Jac Haudenschild and Brent Marks.
In the 358 sprint car night cap, Brad McClelland took the lead from the front row. Kevin Nouse immediately began to challenge from the runner-up spot after starting fourth. A red flag flew on lap five for an eight-car accident with two cars flipping. All drivers were uninjured. On the restart, McClelland held the lead until lap eight when Nouse scooted by going into turn three.
The next circuit McClelland retired from the race with mechanical failure, putting Jordan Givler in the runner-up spot. Nouse continued to set the pace and went on the claim the 20-lap feature race. Brock Zearfoss finished second with a late race charge. Givler settled for a third place podium finish. Chandler Leiby finished strong in fourth, followed by Jeff Halligan in fifth. McClelland, Givler and Zearfoss were the heat race winners.
