Kaeding admits that working with Sides “is a professional opportunity of a lifetime” and that putting the plan on hold “was one of the hardest decisions I‘ve ever had to make.”
Eventually, Tannyn‘s graduation from transitional kindergarten might lead to full-time racing on the WoO tour for his dad. In the meantime, dad is enjoying mud puddles and bounce houses and being a bit of a five-year-old himself.
“He keeps me on my toes every day,” Kaeding says of Tannyn.
And Tannyn has learned to encourage his dad each time he climbs into a sprint car, just like a crew chief who might indulge in some last-minute coaching as the driver straps in. It‘s become a ritual between the two. As the car leaves the pits, Tannyn crooks his right elbow. “Elbows up, dad.”
It‘s a sign that Kaeding is in the fast lane, content — for now — to be a part time Outlaw and a full-time dad.
