For Doty, it launched a new career.

“It was a great time for sprint car racing,” he said. “We knew Indy car people and NASCAR people were watching because nothing else was going on. There were block parties all across the country where people were getting together. It brought corporate sponsorship in and it was a real shot in the arm for winged sprint car racing at the time.”

The ability to escape the cold and dreary weeks in Ohio and grab some sun was not lost on him either. More importantly, this was a big moment for Doty on multiple levels.

“It launched a second career for him,” Sheheen said. “It opened Brad‘s world back up and he has never stopped.”

As Pat Patterson recently motored down I-10 on his way to Texas Motor Speedway he realized that someway, somehow he had made a living in motorsports for more than four decades. There are many things he is proud of, but he admits that the Slick 50 Sprint Car World Series remains one of his greatest accomplishments.End Bug
