Danny Smith

Hall of Fame sprint car driver Danny Smith captured the USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour national championship at the tender age of 64.

Smith accumulated 40 top-10 finishes, including one victory, in 50 series races between February and November.

The native of Danville, Ind., who now resides in Chillicothe, Ohio, has won at least one sprint car main event in 45 of the last 46 years.

He finished 124 points ahead of Terry Gray.

Brad Sweet became only the third driver in World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series history to win three consecutive series championships.

Sweet, 43, joined Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz on that list and became only the fourth driver in series history (Kinser, Schatz, Sammy Swindell) to win three or more titles in a career.

Handling the Kasey Kahne Racing with Mike Curb No. 9 prepared by Eric Prutzman, Sweet won a series-best 16 features.

He also earned 47 top-five finishes and 64 top-10 efforts, finishing out of the top 10 only 13 times in 77 races.
