King of the West-NARC Sprints
Dominic Scelzi
Second-generation sprint car driver Dominic Scelzi (see separate story in this issue), enjoyed the best season of his career while capturing the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu championship.
Driving the Scelzi Racing No. 41 prepared by veteran crew chief Jimmy Carr, Scelzi won six NARC features and picked up 13 podium finishes and 16 top-five finishes during the 21-race season.
Scelzi outdistanced D.J. Netto by 65 points for the title. Tim Kaeding, Bud Kaeding and Sean Becker completed the top five.
POWRi National Midget League
Bryant Wiedeman
Sixteen-year-old Bryant Wiedeman became the youngest driver to win the Lucas Oil POWRi Midget League national championship.
Driving the Keith Kunz Motorsports Curb-Agajanian No. 01 midget, Bryant Wiedeman used consistency to win the title.
He won three features during the 31-race grind and racked up 18 top-five and 28 top-10 finishes, while also winning rookie-of-the-year honors.
Wiedeman claimed the title by 620 points over fellow rookie Brent Crews, who won five features while driving for CB Industries.
Buddy Kofoid, who competed in 17 races, won a series-best nine main events.
USAC National Sprint Cars
Brady Bacon
Sprint Car & Midget columnist (see inside this issue) Brady Bacon collected his fourth USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car Championship.
Steering the familiar Hoffman Racing No. 69 sprint car operated out of his shop, Bacon scored five victories during the USAC season and racked up a series-best 36 top-five finishes and 41 top-10 results.
Bacon, who also won the championship in 2014 and ‘16, became the first back-to-back sprint car champion since Bryan Clauson in 2012-‘13.
Bacon defeated Kevin Thomas Jr., who won a series-best nine features, by 120 points.
USAC-CRA Sprint Cars
Damion Gardner
“The Demon,” Damion Gardner, raced to an impressive ninth AMSOIL USAC-CRA Sprint Car Series championship.
Driving Mark Alexander familiar No. 1 machine, Gardner won six features en route to his eighth consecutive USAC-CRA championship.
Gardner claimed the title by 38 markers over Brody Roa.
USAC National Midgets
Buddy Kofoid
At age 19, Buddy Kofoid became the sixth teenager to win the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Championship.
Wheeling the No. 67 midget, Kofoid earned the 11th owner‘s title for Keith Kunz Motorsports with Curb-Agajanian, breaking a tie for the most in history with Steve Lewis.
Kofoid earned six feature victories in 40 races and racked up 28 top-five results and 37 top-10 finishes.
He outlasted defending series champion Chris Windom by 89 points. Windom and Tanner Thorson each won seven features, while Chase Randall claimed rookie-of-the-year accolades.
USAC Silver Crown Series
Kody Swanson
Kody Swanson did it again.
Despite entering the season finale at Toledo (Ohio) Speedway with a one-point lead over Logan Seavey, Swanson collected his sixth USAC Silver Crown Series championship.
Swanson won four races and posted seven top-five finishes and eight top-10 results in 10 events to earn the first entrant championship for Doran Enterprises.
Seavey, who won twice for Rice Motorsports, finished second in the standings.
