The 2021 Champions

As we roll into a new racing season, let’s look back at the previous campaign.

As we roll into a new racing season, let‘s look back at the previous campaign.

While there were many familiar faces hoisting championship trophies, there were more than a few first-time title winners gracing victory lanes across America during 2021. It was one of the busiest open-wheel racing seasons on record.

Continuing with years of tradition, Sprint Car & Midget is proud to honor open-wheel champions from the 2021 racing season.

Tyler Courtney had already won USAC midget and sprint car championships, but he added another title to his resume during his first full season of racing sprint cars.

“Sunshine” raced to eight All Star Circuit of Champions victories and easily claimed the series championship aboard the Clauson-Marshall Racing No. 7 sprint car.

Clauson, who also won a Kings Royal at Ohio‘s Eldora Speedway in July, racked up 25 top-five finishes and 37 top-10 results in 48 races, winning the title by 276 points over Cory Eliason.

Hunter Schuerenberg, Zeb Wise and Bill Balog rounded out the top five.

Blake Hahn won a series-best seven features en route to earning his first Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Series championship.

Ironically, Hahn claimed the title during the same season that his grandfather, Emmett Hahn, sold the series to Terry Mattox. Emmett Hahn founded the ASCS National Tour and the American Sprint Car Series in 1992.

In addition to the seven triumphs aboard the familiar yellow No. 52 machine, Hahn had 23 top-five finishes and 35 top-10 efforts in 39 races.

Hahn defeated rookie of the year J.J. Hickle (see story in SPEED SPORT), who won five features, by 72 points.
