Remembering Steve Smith: February 13, 1947 June 4, 2021

In all, the record books show that Smith recorded 266 career feature wins. He earned 150 wins at Lincoln Speedway, alone. He took the checkers 32 times at Williams Grove, and was the track‘s 1989 sprint car champion. He earned 28 wins at Susquehanna and earned track titles in 1978 and 1986. He won 14 features at Hagerstown. He earned five wins at Ohio‘s Wayne County Speedway, four at Port Royal Speedway, and another four at the Reading Fairgrounds. Steve earned multiple features at Pennsylvania‘s Grandview, Tri-City, and Penn National Speedways.

Among the additional tracks at which Steve garnered wins were Bedford Fairgrounds Speedway, East Bay Raceway, East Windsor Speedway, Hickory Speedway, Jax Raceway, K-C Raceway, Lernerville Speedway, Motordrome Speedway, Oakshade Raceway, Oglethorpe Speedway Park, Path Valley Speedway Park, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Motor Speedway, Raceway 7, Selinsgrove Speedway, Sharon Speedway, Silver Spring Speedway, Skyline Speedway, and Trail-Way Speedway.
He was the Pennsylvania Sprint Week champion in 1991.

Steve recorded six career World of Outlaws feature wins, and a total of 16 All Star Circuit of Champions victories.

In 2000, Steve was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. In 2019 Stevie was inducted as well, joining his father in the hallowed hall. In 2010, Steve was also inducted into the Eastern Motorsports Hall of Fame.

On Friday, June 4th, at the age of 74, Steve Smith passed away, as a result of natural causes. He leaves behind a massive fan base who enjoyed watching the Bandit lead an exciting, highly-successful career. He was a car builder and mechanic, successful car owner, and one hell of a driver. As a father, he passed on his knowledge to his son, helping him achieve his own incredible sprint car career.
