1982: Kinser became the first driver to win three Knoxville Nationals features in a row, earning a record $10,000 for car owner Karl Kinser.

1983: The purse continued to escalate as Sammy Swindell banked $15,000 for his only Nationals victory.

1984: Wolfgang earned $20,000 his third Nationals victory, with Kinser and Swindell rounding out the podium.

1985: The 25th annual Knoxville Nationals paid $25,000 to Wolfgang, who won the event for the fourth time while driving for Bob Weikert.

1986: Kinser led all 30 laps to become the third four-time winner.

1987: Kinser collected $27,500 for his fifth Knoxville Nationals victory.

1988: Kinser’s No. 11 was the class of the field again as he picked up $30,000 for his sixth Nationals triumph.

1989: Wolfgang held off Dave Blaney for Nationals victory No. 5 and a $33,000 check.

1990: The biggest upset in Nationals history saw Bobby Allen bank $35,000 for beating Sammy Swindell to the checkered flag.

1991: With a record 166 cars entered, Kinser led all 30 laps to earn a whopping $50,000.
