The father of sprint car ace Joey Saldana, Joe Saldana took his talents to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a pair of starts in the Indianapolis 500. The 1970 Knoxville Nationals champion made his debut in 1978, starting 24th and finishing 15th. He returned one year later and drove from 26th to finish 16th.
